Cistercian College students Angus Baker and Mark Dowley, pictured down on the farm at Mount St Joseph Abbey, came third in the senior group Biological and Ecological category in this year’s Young Scientist Competition. Their project title “An investigation into the treatment of lactating cows using bacteriophages versus antibiotics” involved research which was completed on the Abbey farm. The students also received an award for their project display.
Richard Hughes, Matthew Kavanagh and Richard Tynan undertook an investigation into sleep deprivation; their research was carried out on campus amongst their fellow students and was the subject of much attention from visitors and organisers at the BT Young Scientist competition. For their efforts they were highly commended by the judges in the Social and Behavioural Sciences group intermediate category.
